Here is one of the most popular Christmas songs in the UK and my personal favourite- A Fairytale of New York. It is a raucous Duet performed by The Pogues' Shane MacGowan and Kirsty MacColl. The lyrics are quite difficult and it is full of swear words and obscenities, but it tells a story which ends up being quite touching, it is very funny and the tune is fabulous! So Chatterboxes- can you tell me what the relationship is between the two singers in the song? A Fairytale of New York It was Christmas Eve babe In the drunk tank An old man said to me, won't see another one And then he sang a song The Rare Old Mountain Dew I turned my face away And dreamed about you Got on a lucky one Came in eighteen to one I've got a feeling This year's for me and you So happy Christmas I love you baby I can see a better time When all our dreams come true They've got cars big as bars They've got rivers of gold But the wind goes right through you It's no place for the old When ...
Benvinguts i benvingudes al bloc English in Alpens!
Hello Everybody! Here is something that is useful for all groups and all levels- an on-line pronunciation chart! One thing about learning English that a lot of people find difficult is pronunciation. In my classes I like to practice pronunciation and I use phonetic symbols ( letras fonéticas ) to highlight ( recalcar ) the sounds. Here is a link to a Webpage where you can listen to every phonetic symbol or phoneme in English. Click on the phoneme and it will give you the sound and the sound in a word. for example- if you click on the phoneme /I/, which is made to look like a fish, a voice will say the sound /I/ and say the word fish. I hope that you will start to become familiar with the different sounds as we do more classes, and that you become more familiar with the phonetic letters used to represent them. You can use this webpage as a reference! English File: Pronunciation chart
